Film Review.

TV Film Review

Based on the novel, by Louise Rennison, Angus, Thongs, and full frontal snogging and Its okay I'm wearing really Big Knickers. The story is about a 14 year old girl who keeps a diary about the ups and downs of being a teen, including the things she learns bout kissing. Directed by Gurinder Chadha, and written by Gurinda Chadha (screenplay), and Paul Mayeda Berges.

Angus Thongs and Perfect Snogging is a British, coming of Age comedy, which stars Georgia Groome as a 14 year old girl, Georgia Nicholson. Like every other 14 year old girl, Georgia Nicholson is desperate to grow up and become a sophisticated young woman. Growing up with Georgia, are her 3 best friends from school, Jas, Ellen and Rosie, or otherwise known as, "the Ace Gang".
Its the first day back at school, when Georgia is completely besotted with "Stiff Dylans' band hottie Robbie (Aron Johnson), who just moved from London and helps run an organic fruit and veg shop with his brother Tom, whom her best friend Jas has the hots for.
As the film progresses, Georgia and Jas become friendly with the twins from London, and Jas gets into a relationship with Tom, Robbie's brother. However the relationship between Robbie and Georgia proves to be highly unlikely as Robbie is already hanging out with "Slaggy Linsay", Georgia's enemy from the year above. Georgia wants to prove that Linsay is not the right girl for him, however Georgia gets herself into many sticky situations.
Other sticky situations include, her father wanting to move to New Zealand, and the worry that her family might be broken because of a divorce. On top of all of this, Georgia hopes to plan her own party for her 15th Birthday.

Production.
Most of the scenes were filmed in Eastbourne. Others such as the gig scene and some interiors of Georgia's house were filmed in and around Ealing Studios, London. Areas nearby West London like Bishopshalt school in Hillingdon and the Liquid nightclub in Uxbridge were used as well. Sites such as Teddington and Twickenam were used.Costumes included green blazers and kilts borrowed from St Bede's Prep School in Eastbourn, and crops included Eastbourne's signature blue bins to add to the effect when filming in locations

Audience
I feel that this film is aimed at young teenage girls, as the audience can relate to the film and find it funny. The film is very light hearted and funny for the whole family to watch. The film also deals with family issues like the separation of parents, which some children have to go through. Georgia Nicholson is just an average teenage girl, apart from some American rom-com, where the main character is skinny, blonde and beautiful, the main character in Angus thongs and perfect snogging, (Georgia), is a typical teenage girl.

Synergy

Synergy is the term used to describe a situation where different entities co-operate advantageously for a final out-come. Simply defined, it means that the whole is great than some of its parts. So, interns of Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging, it means that when Angus, Thongs and perfect Snogging was released, the soundtrack was released too. Its the strategy of synchronising and actively forging connections between directly related areas of entertainment. Symbiosis is the linking up of various companies to make profits from one product, so like soundtracks and merchandise, such as t-shirts.

The impact of new Technology.

Many films nowadays can be streamed from the internet, and also found on TV movie channels. The capabilities of the DVD, means that home audience member can have the power to fast forward and rewind scenes watching them over and over again, capturing the scenes emotions. Home audiences have a choice, for when they want to watch the film. The film industry is a large industry. Advanced technological capabilities shape  film production, and have changed the way we can view films today.

Media As Bridging Unit

Media Bridging Unit

Why Media ?

I have always wanted to have a career in film/media, for as long as I can remember. I have always been interested in making and editing films and taking advantage of social media sites, such as Youtube and Facebook, to upload my videos, to show family and friends what I enjoyed doing as a hobby outside of school. More and more people started to watch my videos, via youtube. I got plenty of positive feed back from people all over the internet and teachers and friends in school started to encourage me to make more videos. I have been making and uploading videos for 3 years now.

At the beginning of July I did some work experience for  Agile Films, a film and media production company. I really enjoyed my time working there, I visited a music video set, and experienced working in the media career.

I have chosen to study Media as an A level, as I feel that it is appropriate for the career i want to, hopefully, go into after education. I also feel that i am going to enjoy the course, as i have a passion for it.

TV Drama Report

Orange is the New Black.

A couple of months ago, I signed up for a Netflix account, so i could watch free films through out the summer and my spare time. Whilst browsing through Netflix, i came across 'Orange is the New Black'. I knew that everyone was talking about it, and how some people finished the first series in under a week. I wanted to find out for myself wether this Comedy Drama series was worth the hype, so i began to watch and i too found my self joining the 'Orange is the New Black', hype.

Taylor Schilling, plays Piper Champan, a happy 32 year-old city girl living in New York, with her, charmingly low-key fiancé Larry, (Jason Biggs). Piper Chapman's life was near enough perfect, her and her best friend started a line of bath products, and she had found the love of her life who she was about to spend the rest of her life with. Until her rebellious actions from the past catches up with her, which leads her to self surrender at an, upstate woman's prison. Which is all news to her family and fiancé Larry. As was the fact that Piper used to be a lesbian. And the fact that the arrest was for being a mule for some drug money she managed to sneak through customs in Europe.

As of this her family, friends and fiancé Larry had to come to terms that Piper will be spending 15 months behind bars. Piper explains, that she was only 22 years old, in love with a lesbian Alex Vause (Laura Prepon), and wanted to travel Europe, unknown that her partner, Alex, was involved in international drug dealing.

Chapman
Schilling is very believable when playing Piper Chapman that it makes Orange is the New Black work right form the start. From the second we meet Piper we buy that she is a sweet and an innocent young woman, who made a mistake a decade ago, and is now trying to live a quiet, normal life with her fiancé. It is clear to see that not many other women like Piper are in prison, and Kohan (the director), presents Piper as very lonely and isolated, and the viewers automatically start to feel sorry for Piper in prison. When Piper enters prison Healy (Micael Harney) a guard at Litchfield prison, initially seems to be on Piper's side and dispenses advice on how to stay out of trouble, however whilst Piper is trying to keep her head down, she bumps into her ex-girlfriend, Alex Vause, the woman she carried drug money for. Her time in prison was then going to become a lot harder and complicated. Through out series one, we see Piper's character begin to change, she becomes a lot tougher in prison, and her innocence begins to fade, and her attitude to prison and the woman in prison starts to become stronger, as she stands up for her self and becomes a stronger woman.

Through out the series, the focus is sometimes taken away from Piper, and the director Kohan, looks into other woman in the prison and their life stories of how they got into prison. As the audience we understand different characters background and our opinions on characters begin to change. As the audience we understand and connect with some of the characters.

From watching the two series i have learnt about life in prison as i feel the way that it is present on the show is very realistic and not fake. Although the show is hilariously laugh out loud funny, it also deals with everyday issues, such as mental health, relationships problems, and family issues. The show sends a message that prison can ruin the lives of friends, families and relationships. I feel that the audience this TV series is aimed at is 18+, due to sexual scenes, and violence. The series also features homosexuality and how others react to it. Language is extremely colourful and some story lines deal with drugs and serious mental health issues.
